Korea?\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1534682029087_6838\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1534682029087_6837\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1534682029087_6836\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1534682029087_6835\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1534682029087_6834\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1534682029087_6833\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1534682029087_6832\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1534682029087_6831\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1534682029087_6830\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1534682029087_6829\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1534682029087_6828\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1534682029087_6827\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1534682029087_6826\">The simple answer is it varies from region to region, country to country and even within a company that has several local subsidiaries in a county.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Layer on an openness to change varies with\u00a0individuals, plus if there a\u00a0local \u00a0DNA that\u00a0fosters, coaches\u00a0and encourages\u00a0all to adapt vs. one where\u00a0the pressure is to stay the course.<\/p>\n<p>So what is changing?<\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1534682029087_6857\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1534682029087_6856\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1534682029087_6855\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1534682029087_6854\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1534682029087_6853\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1534682029087_6852\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1534682029087_6851\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1534682029087_6850\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1534682029087_6849\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1534682029087_6848\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1534682029087_6847\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1534682029087_6846\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1534682029087_6845\">Frankly, over the past decades little has changed in the expat model. The Korean expatriates, often called Executive Coordinators, are consistently highly engaged in the local operations, decision-making and the approval process&#8211;\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1534682029087_6859\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1534682029087_6858\">often holding on to what\u00a0worked\u00a0in Korea.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1534682029087_6843\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1534682029087_6842\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1534682029087_6841\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1534682029087_6840\">More so, I see few differences from the past in their workplace dress, protocols, work habits and grueling long hours\u2014even with generational shifts occurring. So\u00a0too, within expats,\u00a0we can find\u00a0rigid thinking and risk avoidance overshadowing the openness to change<\/span><\/span><em>.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Radical Change<\/p>\n<p>Surprisingly, where I see the potential from change is from within the companies in Korea.\u00a0\u00a0In fact, in what was once a sea of rigid conformity\u00a0in 2018 the Korean domestic workplace is undergoing radical change.<\/p>\n<p>It is here we\u2019ll potentially see an openness to change that gets transplanted to Korean overseas operations. This newer generation and more progressive management when assigned to an overseas position may bring their\u00a0progressive\u00a0values, attitude, and\u00a0onlook towards the workplace.<\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1534682029087_6872\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1534682029087_6871\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1534682029087_6870\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1534682029087_6869\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1534682029087_6868\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1534682029087_6867\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1534682029087_6866\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1534682029087_6865\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1534682029087_6864\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1534682029087_6863\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1534682029087_6862\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1534682029087_6861\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1534682029087_6860\">This includes as examples\u00a0no tolerance for &#8220;bullying&#8221;\u00a0and companies that have become more sensitive to work life balance with\u00a0broad mandates in place.\u00a0Workers are now, too, boldly voicing publically concerns when policies are not followed.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Employees, leadership and government, too, are pushing back on old practices and there is a widespread acceptance that Korean business, domestic and overseas, must embrace innovation to be competitive.<\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1534682029087_6886\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1534682029087_6885\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1534682029087_6884\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1534682029087_6883\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1534682029087_6882\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1534682029087_6881\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1534682029087_6880\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1534682029087_6879\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1534682029087_6878\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1534682029087_6877\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1534682029087_6876\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1534682029087_6875\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1534682029087_6874\">In
